I was also worried about having the laminate in a wet environment like the kitchen (dog bowl area is notoriously dribbly)...
Let me know what you guys think!
Cabinets - Maple Spice, Sonoma style
Countertop - Dakota Mahogany granite
Tile - nameless gray tile (Daltile)
(I put three representations of the granite, not sure which one is most correct)
My current choices are in my previous post... I'm glad that they still have to sell 3 more units until they start building so I have time to figure all this out...
Personally, I like the look of the tile better than the laminate. Just my .02!
ReplyDeleteAs far as the time goes, we also had a lot of time (contracted in August, construction started in February). We had too much time to second-guess everything. It's a blessing and a curse!
Yes - definitely a blessing but perhaps more of a curse... Even if there's nothing to be done on my end I can't help but be restless until I move in - or at least begin construction (the end will be in sight then)
DeleteIs this ceramic tile you are thinking of putting in the kitchen? If you love to cook and spend a lot of time standing in your kitchen, then I would not go with ceramic tile. It is not forgiving to your feet and legs. We have hardwood in our kitchen and also have a slobbery dog. I'm not too worried about it. I would think that the laminate hardwood might stand up better than the real hardwood. If you absolutely want to go with the ceramic, then buy those thick rubber mats to put in key areas of the kitchen - sink, stove, and worktop.
ReplyDeleteAs for colors, it looks like the granite you picked is a warm color (browns and golds in it) and the floor tile you picked is a cool color. Not sure if that matters to you, but it is something to think about.
Yeah - it will be for the kitchen. I was already planning on getting a couple of the GelPro mats regardless of what the floor was - I think they're a life saver.
DeleteFor the colors - that is my concern but I set up another appointment at the flooring showroom to look at them in person again, it's so hard to judge them on a computer screen. I'm struggling with the maple spice because it seems that every sample I look at (in person and on screen) is totally different. Some seem much more peachy than others.
Great! Get me a couple of the Gel Pro mats, too!
ReplyDeleteDon't feel bad about second guessing yourself. We had several appointments with our RiteRug rep. She was fabulous. She also had a background in design and we bounced things off of her. Your rep should be able to help you with whether or not colors will go together well. All the granites vary quite a bit from shipment to shipment. I actually went to the granite showroom and chose our exact pieces.
Either will be nice. A downside to tile though is that if you drop a dish its much more likely to break than if you drop it on laminate, hardwood, or vinyl. I saw the laminate in one of the other houses in my neighborhood and it was a little creeky. Not sure if that was an installation issue, or just how it was.
ReplyDeleteI'm really drawn to the tile for the durability and moisture resistance. My dog's beard has a habit of dragging half of her water bowl across the kitchen so that's a bit consideration for me.
DeleteOn the laminate - that's my biggest fear is it being creaky and feeling weak. I'm hoping that my decision to get an upgraded laminate will be in my favor here.
